Enjoy a Car Free bike ride, run, or hike down the Colonial Parkway
May 4, 2019 from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm; once a year the National Park Service closes 8 miles of the Colonial Parkway to vehicular traffic for half the day.
BikeWalk Williamsburg is proud to announce the 22nd annual Pedal the Parkway event. Come join more than 1,000 of your closest friends for the rare chance to bike, walk or run the Colonial Parkway from Jamestown to Williamsburg completely car-free. Pedal the Parkway is co-hosted by BikeWalk Williamsburg and the National Park Service.
Eight miles of the Parkway will be closed to vehicular traffic from 8 am to 1 pm, between Jamestown Settlement to Newport Avenue in Williamsburg, allowing open access for all cyclists and pedestrians to enjoy the road together. There will be a stocked aid station, bike shops ready to assist with mechanical issues, a van in case you get stranded and tons of volunteers ready to help make your experience the best it can be. The event is non-competitive, start when you like and suitable for all ages and abilities.
This year with the Ironman Virginia happening the same weekend, families are encouraged to “Make it a Weekend.” BikeWalk Williamsburg will have do-on-your-own rides on downloadable maps available on their website.
Participants are encouraged to visit Billsburg Brewery after the ride for beverages as well as having a meal at a food truck. Billsburg will donate $1.00 for every pint purchased to BikeWalk Williamsburg!
The event is free and held rain or shine. All participants must register on-site and cyclists should wear helmets. BikeWalk Williamsburg will have free helmets on site and will fit them for riders who need them.
This is a great ride to introduce young family members to the joys of road cycling. Parking is available at Jamestown Settlement (2110 Jamestown Road) and in the National Center for State Courts (300 Newport Avenue) parking lot in Williamsburg.
